I just had the opportunity to watch the movie STINK! and I am appalled. I actually couldn't make it through on the first sitting because it made me so mad! I know too many people with cancer and auto-immune diseases and endocrine issues. It is insanity.
You NEED to watch this movie on Netflix. https://www.netflix.com/title/80076581
It all started with a man that lost his wife to cancer and is raising his two girls alone. He bought Christmas Pajamas from the tween store JUSTICE and the clothes were coated in stinky chemicals --as most garments are, so he started contacting the company, the CEO, and the FDA to find out what chemicals were on the pajamas and discovered that they aren’t required by law to tell consumers what is on the clothes that we put on our children!!! Ultimately, he send them out to a lab to have them tested and found that there were several chemicals including chemicals that were banned from being used on Children’s pajamas 30 years ago!!! 😵 How does this happen in the USA?!? Please watch, I am beyond disgusted and angry by being lulled into a false sense of protection.
Here are some of the facts from the documentary:
🔻In 2009, the President's Cancer Panel Report announced cancer risks due to toxic chemicals were grossly underestimated and that "chemicals are devastating American lives."😵
🔻In the 1960s, a woman's lifetime cancer risk was 1 in 20. Today, it's 1 in 8.😷
🔻The FDA deans products “safe” for the public based on testing performed by the companies requesting their approval.🤑
🔻A company is not required by law to list all its ingredients, and how they label their product is not regulated by the FDA. 🤐
🔻"Fragrance" has countless hidden chemicals under this one term - a company is not required to tell you which ones. These chemicals are typically known endocrine and hormone disrupters, and in many cases may cause cancer.🤢
🔻When one reporter had her blood tested, the results showed hundreds of chemicals linked to cancer and heart disease.😱
🔻Studies on pregnant women have found hundreds of toxic chemicals in their bloodstreams and nearly all of those same chemicals were present in the baby's bloodstream - before birth. Many of them known as cancer causing chemicals!🤒
Women and girls use up to 20 products a day with fragrance.
I am beyond grateful that my family has spent the last year ditching & switching from some of these harmful chemicals! 🙌 I know I can’t change what I can’t control but I vow to change MY Tiny World and I hope that you will want to change yours!👨👩👧👦
Please download an app, that can scan the products in your everyday life and see what's inside. It Is YOUR responsibility to make informed choices - your future and the future of your family depends on it. 🌱❤️
More resources about Fragrance:
From the FDA website:
Some individuals may be allergic or sensitive to certain ingredients in cosmetics, food, or other products, even if those ingredients are safe for most people. Some components of fragrance formulas may have a potential to cause allergic reactions or sensitivities for some people.
FDA does not have the same legal authority to require allergen labeling for cosmetics as for food. So, if you are concerned about fragrance sensitivities, you may want to choose products that are fragrance free, and check the ingredient list carefully. If consumers have questions, they may choose to contact the manufacturer directly.
During June July & August we are swapping and sharing! In my Cups Overflowing Young Living Member’s community we are all learning and sharing with each other about chemical awareness and making choices to swap out for safer products in our home. In this series I will give ideas for products to buy or make to fit your budget and family’s needs. 💕
There is a contest with prizes for those of you playing along at home! Summer Swap details
This week's Swap - Oral Care
Your mouth is very absorbent so anything in your toothpaste has a direct line to your bloodstream.
Conventional toothpaste commonly contains the following ingredients which can be harmful to your health.
Fluoride: There have been 34 human and 100 animal studies linking fluoride to brain damage, lower IQ in children, health-related issues like thyroid disease, arthritis, dementia, immune system issues and even infertility. BUT I NEED FLOURIDE, DONT I? NO! Do your research! The added risks outweigh the perceived benefits. Also, EOs can be really effective at remineralization as well, if we get the junk out of the way.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS: Makes your toothpaste foamy. Ditch the foam! we don't need it to be clean. SLS is registered as an insecticide and industrial degreaser.
Artificial Sweeteners: Avoid! Avoid!
Triclosan: This chemical is linked to antibiotic resistance and endocrine disruption and was BANNED from hand sanitizers but is still in toothpaste!
Young living has 4 different naturally derived toothpastes with NO fluoride, sulfates, dyes, synthetic colorants, or artificial colorants. My favorite is the Detarome Plus, it's a little more minty and smooth. Others love Aromabright.

Last week’s Swap- Hand Soap
Hand soap can be loaded with things that are harmful to our bodies - SLS and Fragrances can be endocrine disrupters. I thought I was choosing safe “green” products but after I researched them I learned that common “clean” brands still have so many harmful things in them! Watch out for greenwashing, friends!
Buy: Thieves Foaming Hand Soap or Lavender Foaming Hand Soap
Make: DIY Foaming soap! Very cost effective!!

These make really nice gifts and it’s so easy to keep refilling, less waste!
The listening program is going well! Already seeing some exciting results. I’m journaling the process and promise a full report later on my blog for those of you that care!
But for now I’ll just say:
1) I’m so glad we are doing this as a family 💕
2) Even just at day 1 I could feel the changes happening physically to myself and catch myself actually making eye contact with people in situations where I never have in the past. 🙌 We are seeing that with M too along with more confident conversations with neighbors and friends! I am soo enjoying what it is doing for me too. It’s so nice to know what he is experiencing too so I can support him fully as we go through it together. So much of what causes healing is love and connection and this process has been so full of that so far.
3) We have a few days left of the first protocol. Today is supposed to be our “tired day” and so far that is on point. So glad I have all my arsenal to support us. I’ve been using a lot of things from my bag of tricks to help reinforce the changes happening and help our bodies and brains do the hard work of transformation. Deep Relief this morning, chugging Ningxia, Omegagize, Sulfurzyme, and so many oils to support brain and nervous system, I’ll make a longer post about the oils but I’ll just say now that I hadn’t used more than 10 drops of this full bottle of Clarity that I got free last summer and it’s only day 3 and we are flying through it, my body is just cravvving that and it is pouring out of the bottle.
Soo glad we are doing this. ✨
PS - Since I've gotten some inquiries -- we are doing the integrated Listenjng Systems (now Unyte) Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) & Focus Home Programs with Brain Harmony.
This post contains an affiliate link to Brain Harmony, whom we chose as the home provider for the listening system. We have been loving working with Brain Harmony, and this home program is such a great fit for us. They are the largest provider of home program ILS systems in the country and I feel very secure in knowing that they have expertise in this, much more than the original provider who initially exposed us to the ILS systems.
I’m gonna be honest. It’s been a bit dark and swirly for a while around here.
Even when my faith is the best it’s been, the storms still come. I spent a lot of time reading Job over the past month.
Job was a very upstanding guy. He was also pretty privileged and life was pretty good. And then the devil decided to mess with him. Job went through some major losses. He endured sickness, betrayal, you name it. And he just kept as close as he could to God through it all. Sure, he lamented and asked for relief but his faith didn’t waver. He just kept seeking God and asking for mercy and wisdom and grace to endure it all.
Honestly I am thankful I am not going through what Job went through but like Job, the thing I struggle with the most isn’t my faith. For me, it’s my pride. I know God is in control. I know it will all turn out okay. I’m not questioning that I am taken care of but I struggle with how to authentically and humbly live out loud while things are challenging. Without looking like a whiner. Or a downer. Being a Christian doesn’t mean life is easy. It’s a jungle out there, people, and the enemy is not a fan of people on the A team.
I fall into the enemy’s trap of wanting to look like I have it all figured out and am an expert on it all. And I want to do all the right things and be positive and attract positive and have a good mindset and all of that, because that’s all important. It truly is. We have enough negative and detrimental stuff coming at us on the regular and what is inside needs to be fortified with goodness (Whatever is good, noble, just think on that!) But I am also a human, a sinner, and flawed. I feel like I am a failure if I let it show that I don't have a grip, that I need help and it’s freaking hard and embarrassing and stressful around here much of the time.
But if I have it all figured out, then I am taking God’s place. I’m not giving him room to work.
The point is, we need to see everything as a season. It can simultaneously be totally freaking hard and totally full of grace and mercy and love, and it is available if we tune into it. God is with us through it all and he has a huge plan for us if we let Him have control. We can weather a tough season and wait for spring and all to be bright again. I am holding on for spring and taking in heapfuls of grace and mercy every moment asking for assistance. And I can hear the spirit say to me "It is going to be okay. The sun is rising again."
We are starting a listening program and I am so hopeful. I'll definitely be sharing more about that soon.
I don't like to post stuff about while I'm on vacation because that's a security risk lol but I have been wanting to share this story for days....
We checked into a small privately owned hotel last week and I immediately had issues breathing and a headache. It was loaded with air fresheners and febreeze and fragrance-laden detergent that I haven't used in years. I found all the air fresheners and hid them in a cabinet lol. But I couldn't escape sleeping on it and wiping my body with the towels. 😷
By day 2 I started to get nosebleeds. My son was sneezing and itching. My respiratory channels were inflamed. 4 days later it is finally calming down.
It's been 10 years since I had a plug-in in my house or used febreeze. 20 since I used Tide or any scented laundry detergent. I used to be on asthma medication. I didn’t choose to become a hippy but my heath demanded I make some changes... I had to adopt a cleaner lifestyle to get myself in a better place from all of those symptoms, so many of which were caused by the chemicals in my environment. I remember having nosebleeds and allergies regularly since teenage years.
Now I can't even walk down the cleaning aisle in the store without getting a headache and having trouble breathing.
Are you sensitive to the air freshener stuff? Or maybe you are getting headaches but don't know the cause? Ever heard about the frog in the pot experiment? Basically they put a frog in a pot and slowly slowly increased the temperature exposing the frog to higher temps, but his body adjusted because it was incremental. Then, just at around boiling point he realized it was too hot and he was in danger, he tried to jump out but his strength had been depleted by adapting to the heat all that time and it was too late for him. The comparison here is to something called bioaccumulation, where we get exposed to toxins here and there and tolerate small increments of them but the buildup over time is having health consequences.
Since we started using essential oils and clean products I know our bodies are in a better state, able to fight off what comes our way, not slowed down by the junk. It’s a cruel reminder to be back among the things that had me feeling so terrible a decade ago. I’m never going back to that lifestyle.
We are the only ones who are going to care about what’s best for us. Are you advocating for yourself and your family by choosing safe products? If not, what are your barriers? I know it can be a bit overwhelming to make changes, been there for sure. Because of how bumpy my journey has been I want to help others and share what I’ve learned so it doesn’t have to be so hard for others. Let me know if you want me to share resources with you to find your own path to cleaner living. 💚💛
