Over on Facebook, I’m doing a little class about my business. It's been a year of sharing and teaching wellness and what a ride it has been! I wanted to commemorate the journey with a little reflection on what this business is all about for me, why I do it, what it has done in my life and some things I learned along the way! If you're curious at all about whether this could fit in your life come on in and take a peek when you have time!
I wanted to share a bit of it here too, for those of you not on Facebook. Here’s a little bit of my story
I was in pretty rough shape 3 years ago. My health had steadily been declining over the past probably 10 years.
I was in the corporate scene; worked with a great group of people and thought I was in the right place but I kept hitting walls. I was good, but not "good enough" to get the carrot on the end of the string and I just had so much endless hunger to help people. I made the best of it and felt pretty useful there so I thought I was doing what I was supposed to, but, it didn't feel "right".
Then I had a child, my health declined further, I returned to part-time work and eventually things pretty much fell apart at the seams. I got a diagnosis, underwent treatment that wasn't completely effective and ultimately required surgery. When I was about to return to work after surgery I was given notice that I'd be laid off but would train my replacement first.
Have you had one of those times you can look back on where everything went "wrong" but you know now it was the best thing for you? That.
I really knew in my heart it wasn't healthy for me to be working. My family needed me. My body needed me. My soul needed me. It was time to start putting the pieces back together.
I spent a long time getting myself back to health. I was struggling emotionally and physically and doing my best. I literally would tell myself that 100 times a day "you're doing your best." But, it was pretty low.
I had guilt for what I couldn't be. I didn't want to treat myself well. I wasn't making any income and had incurred major medical expenses so I didn't think doing anything for myself was okay. I was crumbling. Did I mention I had a toddler?
My friends were encouraging and I probably hid the worst from them. One patient friend shared some info with me that gave me hope, and she didn't give up on me when I was too small and scared and meek to accept the solutions she had for me. All of a sudden I was enveloped into a community that was full of light and love, without even feeling worthy of it. God was guiding every single bit of this. It is unbelievable all of the details that have shown me the goodness of God in my rescue and transformation. I hemmed and hawed about that dang starter kit for 4 months because I did not feel worthy of spending that kind of money on myself. But one night, after reading a wonderful book, I realized I was being called to wake up and treat myself like God's beloved whom He made with gifts and talents suited for serving Him with the tools that He provides! I wasn't being a good steward of myself and I needed to make a change! I wasn't good for anyone in the state I was in and it was okay, vital even, to invest in myself. And little did I know that was such a small investment for the return I was going to get in quality of life.
Well. It wasn't long at all and I couldn't shut up about the dang oils, you guys. The emotional ones. LORD! The emotional ones. And I realized that there was such a time as this to do the thing in front of me and take one step at a time wherever God was leading. He put a business into my hands along with everything I could have never known to ask for. I am doing my best to steward it and love others with the best of my abilities!
The rest of this class is a little rundown of what the spirit of this business is for me. It's not about pushing a sale, making a deal, getting product out the door. It's about serving others well, loving God and letting Him lead me to get tools into the hands of those who need it, and pointing others to Jesus! After all, He's the one doing ALL the healing! 🙂
In today’s world, some of the most dangerous things that affect our health are things we willingly expose ourselves to on the daily. And some of these things might not be what you expect! In fact, you might be completely oblivious to the fact that the products we use on ourselves, in our home, on our children, and in our everyday lives, could be the very things that are contributing to why we’re sick, why we have health problems, why we struggle emotionally, and why we are not living a life full of wellness, purpose, and abundance.
Friends, I GET IT. I get the feeling of being overwhelmed and not knowing where to start. Even being a little skeptical. At first, I thought this was all kind of a rouse to get us to buy more. However, when I REALLY started looking into it, what I found out was scary. What I love the most about Young Living is their sense of stewardship. They really do want to provide the very best for us and our families. I was skeptical too. Please know, I'll meet you where you are.
When we use toxic ingredients in products on ourselves and our children on a daily basis, the toxins build up and accumulate within our bodies – a process called “bioaccumulation.” This means that the more we expose ourselves to these toxins, the harder it is for our bodies to break them down. Because of this build up, it causes both minor and major health issues, that otherwise could be prevented if we simply quit using those toxins. Even if these issues aren’t apparent right now, they will be apparent later on down the road.
But, I already choose safe products
Maybe you’ve made an effort to select safer products! That’s awesome! What I realized -- those 'safe' brands I thought I was getting? NOPE. Not so safe. They are full of known carcinogens and known hormone disrupters.
Do not be fooled by brands that claim 'Organic', 'Free and clear', 'Gentle', or even 'All Natural'. I used to buy some of the 'naturally leaning' and 'organic' brands. I thought I was doing pretty well! Until I started scanning the products in my bathroom. And was FLOORED.“Greenwashing - disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image.”
Let’s talk about what this means ☝🏻 ☝🏻 ☝🏻 ☝🏻
Basically companies can trick you into thinking their products are all natural and safe by making the appearance of the product LOOK more “natural” or organic etc. You'll notice that a lot of "natural" or "organic" products have a lot of green, white, clean-looking labels. They might even have "natural" or "organic" on the front but have asterisks in the ingredients to show that only a few ingredients are truly natural or organic. It's all a marketing ploy to make you think you're buying something that's safer for you and your family.
Here's a great example of an “all natural” baby wash. Check out the ingredients of a best-selling brand. It contains:
☠️Sodium Hydroxide - is used in drain cleaner, detergents, and to manufacture pulp and textiles. It also causes burns in all tissue that it comes into contact with, specifically the eyes
☠️Phenoxyethenol - is stated by The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) that it can cause skin and lung irritation. It notes that toxic effects can occur though inhalation, skin exposure and ingestion
☠️Fragrance (plant) - ok, so it sounds good because everyone would definitely prefer fragrance that comes from a plant vs a synthetic one. BUT, how are they getting the fragrance out of the plant? Are they using solvents that leave chemical by-products that will absorb into your skin or that you'll breathe throughout the day from the lotion, shampoo, laundry detergent, or dryer sheet that you used? Are they distilling to get the oil out of the plant? If they are, are they distilling in medical grade stainless steel vs aluminum, which will then be a by-product that not only absorbs into your bloodstream but passes through the blood brain barrier INTO your brain. 😲
Greenwashing can give us a false sense of security when it comes to what we use on our bodies ESPECIALLY when the industry doesn’t require companies to disclose what by-products are in the products we use. We think we're buying safe products for our family to reduce the amount of toxic chemicals we're exposing them to but we're really not if we're buying into the greenwashing marketing ploy.
Know what is in your products. Read the ingredient lists. Use the EWG app to scan the SKU of your products to see how safe they really are.
Resources where you can do your own research:
EWG Skin Deep Database https://www.ewg.org/ – search for products, brands and ingredients to see health and safety information.
The Federal Register https://www.federalregister.gov – search for products, brands, ingredients to see cases brought forward or rulings made.
Google Scholar, Pubmed are also good things to use to search ingredients!
Sooo, what can I use instead?
You want to find a company that sets very high standards and holds themselves to it. You know I’m a researcher, so trust me when I say I’ve done my homework on this.
Since I discovered Young Living, I get all of my household cleaning, body care, skin care, dental care, hair care, makeup, supplements, sunscreen and essential oils from Young Living because they ensure that EVERY product fulfills our Seed to Seal Guarantee--that from the dirt, seed, water, processing, bottling, etc, there are NO toxic chemicals, no GMOs, no nanoparticles, no preservatives, or by-products that are harmful to me, my family, my dog and my house. With all of Young Living’s products, their ingredients have levels that rank nothing higher than a 1 or a 2 in the EWG rating scale.
While they are an essential oil company, they are also a fully-equipped natural products company. They have supplements, beauty products, household cleaning products, stuff for kids and babies, home purifiers, bath and shower products, oral care, and yes - even makeup! They make this whole switching out products, what we like to call “Switch & Ditch” super convenient. You can simply use your current products and replace them with something Young Living has. And these aren't sub-par products, people. They are top notch.
I am SO grateful that we have high quality safe and non toxic options that support our bodies vs leave a toxic chemical footprint that can wreak havoc in our bodies.
More about the Thieves Line
UM, Yeah, But Natural Products are Expensive...
Let’s think about the VALUE of taking care of your family. Have you ever heard the saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?” We can stop treating symptoms and start supporting systems by investing in our health, eliminating toxins and chemicals in our life, and flooding the body with nutrients and plant-based ingredients instead. While I am definitely NOT saying you should quit taking medications and going to the doctor (modern medicine is amazing and absolutely holds a vital place in this world-- I may not be alive if it weren’t for diagnostics and interventions that I received!), I am simply saying that a mindset focused on proactive wellness rather than reactive healthcare will serve you and your family better in the long run, and surprisingly might have a better impact on your wallet as well.
Let’s actually look at some numbers, shall we?
Inventory how many bottles of various cleaners you have under your kitchen sink, bathroom sinks, and garage and how much they each cost per bottle.... got an estimate in your head?
Now, here's the deal: It is likely that you can replace ALL of those with ONE bottle of Thieves household cleaner. And it will do the job effectively. I'm serious.
One 14.4oz bottle of Thieves household cleaner will make over 30.BOTTLES. of normal-sized multipurpose spray solution. That’s $0.75 per bottle. You won’t find that at the grocery store.
This one bottle will last the typical family of 4 who does normal daily cleaning with weekly deep cleaning about 3-6 months.
Retail: $29.61 USD
Wholesale: $22.50 US
I mean, there has to be a catch, right?
No catch - good news for you! The truth is I have a very active child. I have to be concerned with what is used to clean every surface of my home. Why? Because what is on the floor gets absorbed through his delicate skin and goes into his blood stream. So yeah, I would rather have a natural, effective, product without all of the hormone disruptors, without all of the “crap” that can affect my son (and myself!).
But is it effective? GoogleScholar the essential oil ingredients, or event “thieves essential oil blend”. PubMed the same thing. Because I am a distributor, I can’t share the research I have found with you - but I can tell you as a mother and auto-immune disease survivor, there is no other cleaner I feel confident in having on every surface of my house.
Our home is a safe, clean space where I feel confident I am making the best choices for my family when it comes to cleaning products!
So, is it worth the price? Absolutely.
Is it expensive? Absolutely not. I’ll remind you - $0.75 per multipurpose spray. Plus if you purchase on Essential Rewards, you are making 10%, 20% or 25% of the pv back for FREE stuff, like more Thieves Cleaner, and how can you beat free!?
Next: 5 ways you can totally afford Young Living products
February is the month associated with love. Often, people are so busy looking for someone to love that we may forget about the one person we need to love first – ourselves.
Everyone has hurts, emotional pain and shortcomings. Rather than focusing on those, learn to accept yourself as you are. Try not to be so hard on yourself, instead, focus on your many positive qualities. Think of all your strengths, abilities and traits and try daily loving and positive affirmations. Nourish your soul through a love-kindness meditation or spiritual practices that help you feel compassion and love toward yourself.
Here are a few oils to help you love yourself first before looking for the love of your life.
Be Gentle with Yourself.
Diffuse or apply Acceptance essential oil blend to support calm and balanced emotions. Acceptance gently helps us to accept challenges so we can move forward rather than meeting them with resistance, anger or resentment. Those who are prone to procrastinate or are in denial will benefit from this oil as well.
Give Yourself a Break
Be willing to embrace yourself and excuse your bad days. Breathe in Geranium essential oil to bring a sense of calm if you are feeling anxious. Geranium will help support feelings of peace. It blends perfectly with Bergamot & Lavender. I like to wear Geranium oil as a natural perfume especially if I am going to a stressful meeting. The aroma is wonderful, it keeps me relaxed, and the issues always get resolved quickly and peacefully! My favorite blends that contain Geranium are Envision and White Angelica, the oil of Angels!
Bergamot –This oil is the embodiment of self-love and self-worth. This oil helps process and release the fear of not being good enough, and opens you up to love and self-acceptance. Bergamot teaches and supports acceptance of your uniqueness, self-approval, joy, and resulting self-confidence. The whole world could use a few drops of Bergamot!
The process of Loving Yourself begins with understanding your true nature. Practicing intentional self-care keeps you balanced and healthy, essential for long term wellness. When you are being kind, considerate, compassionate, and giving of yourself, you have reached the highest level of self-love.
Looking to go deeper? The Feelings Collection is a lovely way to give yourself tender care and tend to your emotional self.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, most of us start thinking about what we’re going to do for our spouse for this once a year love fest kind of holiday. Let’s intentionally make this an everyday love fest kind of thing in our marriages. Let’s be intentional about kindling the sexual flame! We have plenty of tools (oils) at our fingertips (literally)!
To start things off, you’re going to want a bottle of Young Living’s Sensation Massage Oil to keep on your nightstand. Sensation Massage Oil has Ylang Ylang, Coriander, Bergamot, Jasmine, Geranium, and several carrier oils.
Add some Goldenrod, Idaho Blue Spruce, and a few more drops of Ylang Ylang, and you’ve got yourself a natural lube that you will never again want to go without.
Goldenrod is great for circulatory support - blood flow to certain areas is oh so important, and the name of this oil is quite telling!
Ylang Ylang is an exotic aphrodisiac (can increase libido).
Interesting facts about Spruce trees: they are known for their thick bases, they are often used for poles, can grow tall quickly and are strong, prefer being planted in a deep, moist hole, and their seeds are known to blow mightily in the wind. I’m just going to let those little factoids sit right there.
Are Essential Oils New to you? The Young Living Premium Starter Kit is definitely the best gift idea around. Then throw in one or two of these lovelies below!
